About
Comtra
Founded by
Marie Teets, Comtra Theatre is an intimate, in-the-round community
theater located on Route 19 North in Cranberry, Butler County,
PA.
Initially known as the "East West Players" (named
for the restaurant that was behind it), shows were presented
in a tent located next door at Piazza Plaza, next to the former
Cranberry Post Office. Audiences would have dinner, then sit
on bleachers in the tent and watch shows.
In 1983, Marie bought the old barn next to the post office with
financial help from her mother, and in July of that year presented
"Guys and Dolls," the first show in the new facility.
One couple that is still active at Comtra--John and Christine
Zuemie--met during that show and eventually were married. Since
then, several other couples have met at the theater.
For more than 20 years, the theater has been entertaining and
delighting audiences with comedy, drama and musical productions,
52 weeks a year.
Our theatre is warm and cozy during the cool months and air
conditioned during the warm months. Also, every seat in the
house in a good one!
Most shows run for three weekends and are appropriate for all
family members. In fact, many, if not most, audiences for our
shows span three generations.
